Taiwan

In October, 2001, the Trinity Irish Dance Company embarked on a wonderful tour to the island of Taiwan, off the coast of mainland China.  For me, it partially fulfilled a dream to travel to the far east, but also brought a lifetime of memories.  Making this trip even more special was that we departed only a few short weeks after the events of Sept. 11.  I think many members of the company wanted to stand up against the evil that struck the U.S. and forged ahead the 18 hour journey.  It was a proud moment.

We made friends for life in this charming and friendly country -- It was the time of our lives.

Brendan O'Shea showing off his new pink shirt which he never seemed to take off.   Me sitting on the steps of Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.   Brendan and Stone singing up a storm at KTV (Kareoke) -- More Below!   The girls forced me to wear Sadie's bra and smile for pictures. Colorful isn't it?   View of Taichung from my hotel room -- by day.

View of Taichung from my hotel room -- at night.   Yes, there are four people on that scooter.   View from hotel in Kaohsiung with a view of what we christened the "Chicken Dragon Tunafish".   Buses, taxis, and scooters. The only ways to Travel in Taiwan. Almost killed in all three types, by the way. :)

Just a cool photo of the boys (Joe, Brendan, and Tim) sitting on some steps taking in the scene.   Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Taipei.   Main Entrance to Snake Alley in Taipei.   Night market somewhere -- kids playing with very cute puppies.

Beautiful theatre curtain in Cha-Yi (I think!).   The boys after a rather interesting experience at a masquerading KTV parlour.   Christopher Layer couldn't find the New York Post, so he settled for the China Post.   Joe Smith doing his impression of eating odd unidentifiable foods from street vendors.

Deirdre Mahoney and Brendan O'Shea trying not to look too American.   Myself and Joe with Alisa in a dressing room somewhere putting on makeup.   Girls rehearsing outside with cute boy wandering around them.   Natalie Sliwinski and Sinead Kimbrell rehearsing Curran Event.

With Jennifer Ho backstage in Taipei. Visit her webpage at http://go.to/irishdance.tw   Great picture of Sinead Kimbrell at breakfast in Taipei. Didn't notice the flower until I got my pictures developed!   Playing on a springy horse in Taipei.   Sinead Kimbrell writing words about the future of Taiwan on this nice lady's back.

The boys sunbathing on the roof of our hotel in Taichung.   Brendan on the long lost search for bellybutton lint.   Underneath the huge neon hotel sign in Taichung.   Sitting around a table with Sadie, Erica, Chris, Sammy, Brendan, and Katie in Taichung.

Shannon Malee, Maureen Shea, and Natalie Sliwinski singing at the KTV place. The wallpaper is a common theme throughout the country. :)   Tim Monson (our stage manager) dancing like a fool in front of Joyce (right). We think he liked her. ;)   Singing with Shannon Malee at KTV.   Some of our crew including Terry and Black (on right) who never failed to show us a fabulous time!

Jetskiing in the ocean at Kenting beach.   With Brendan O'Shea after our wonderful day at the beach in Kenting.   I have no recollection of this, but it appears as though I'm trying to pick Alisa Ranum up at the Jurassic dance club in Kaohsiung.   The group in lobby of hotel in Hsin Chu with a spattering of hotel staff mixed in.

We threw a surprise birthday party for Marcos (our sound engineer) on the 5 hour bus ride to Kaohsiung.   The Birthday boy (in Marry Xmas Goofy hat -- that's how it was spelt) eating a chocolate teddy head.   The party bus. I love this photo because you can see Marcos in his party hat in the middle. It just disturbs me and makes me laugh. :)   Everyone in a 7-11. Seamus Whitty -- arms raised -- after pushing me out the door with an unpaid bag full of cups.

Last night of tour, in Kaohsiung. Our presenter (Paris Entertainment) provided a brilliant seafood dinner.   We're tired. Time to go home.
